Welcoming in the New Year with Herbalist Amanda Furbee

Here we are again with a brand new year calling us in! 2020 in Chinese astrology is the year of the Metal Rat.  The Rat is also the first of 12 in the Chinese zodiac and represents renewal, a fresh start and delivers new experiences. The element of Metal is associated with 2020. Metal represents success and productivity. As we start to set our intentions for the year, it feels nice to have the Metal Rat on our side, as it brings with it the hope of positive growth and accomplishment.

With a breath of fresh air, 2020 is here to help us recognize the change we need to make within ourselves to grow into our full potential. We have been planting seeds with our wishes, sowing the earth with our dreams and watering our intentions with sweet tears.

What do you welcome in as positive growth for yourself in the next 12 months? It’s the time of year for dreaming and hibernating. Letting our consciousness rest a little. Rest is essential for us to grow, listening to what we actually need and slowing down when it’s time to slow down. With rest comes the possibility of clarity and creativity. Take advantage of the rest and let it be your peace of mind, renewal and rebirth for the New Year.

In this year of the Metal Rat, my personal life is welcoming in rest and slowing down. Stopping to smell the flowers a little longer. Snuggling with the animals and loved ones. Embracing new shifts and perspectives.  Allowing my personal goals to flourish to my best capacity. As The Herb Shoppe evolves in the amazing capacity that it does, it never ceases to amaze me that, with so much love embodied from a beautiful community of supporters, we can always continue to grow and shift with the dynamics of what the elements present us with.

I have always known that connection is so important, but through bringing more education to the community and more heart to herbal medicine, I’ve seen the impact of connection on a larger scale. This type of connection is something that touches the souls of beings and enlightens us to grow into awareness. This past year at The Herb Shoppe was full of budding herbalists, a community that supported us, and educators from all over the country coming to continue to educate us with their wisdom. We thank you and are humbled by your continued support.

As we grow as a business, my main goal is to always ensure that we stay true to the community and support the growth that it encompasses. The more we grow, the more we can give back and help those in need. One of our missions is to be able to help folks grow into their own shoes. It is a special treat to get to see the light bulb go off in a person for the first time, and then to nourish and support them as they stand on their own.

May this year bless you in all the ways you plan to grow and be abundant! We are grateful for you and can’t wait to see how we grow together this year.

Amanda Furbee

Amanda’s interest in herbalism began at an early age but it wouldn’t be until 2010, when she moved to the Pacific Northwest, that her relationship with medicinal plants blossomed. The move from the east coast to the west coast would be more than a change of scenery, it brought her closer towards the wonderful world of herbalism. Ambitious to start learning she found a golden opportunity working at Portland’s first all organic herbal supplier, The Herb Shoppe. Her experience was even more fulfilling than she had hoped for, feeling invigorated Amanda knew this was a step in the right direction.
