Herbal Blend Recipe: Herbal Energy Balls

Amanda Furbee
Incorporating herbs into your food is always a fun surprise. It’s a great way to take your herbs to a new level. One of my favorite ways of doing this is with other healthy and delicious ingredients like chocolate, tahini and almond butter. I encourage you can be as creative as your taste buds can handle. When it comes to getting all my greens in and an extra energy kick I make herbal energy balls. These are great to bring with you on any adventure. You can dehydrate them or freeze them and just eat them as needed. This blend has our Vital Greens blend which a vitamin boost partnered with Maca Rt, Guarana, Kola Nut and a spice blend of cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg. If you have not worked with Maca, Guarana or Kola Nut before, herbs can be very energizing so start with a small amount and see how you interact with the herbs. Not looking for energy? Try swapping out the herbs for any combination of herbs from immune boosting to relaxing. Here’s what you will need: Energizing Balls -1 cup tahini, 2 Tablespoons of tahini oil -1/3 cup of almond butter -1/2 cup of chopped almonds - 1/2 cup Vital Greens Powder -1/4 cup Maca Powder -1/8 cup Guarana -1/8 cup Kola Nut -1 teaspoon of cinnamon -1/2 teaspoon of cardamom -1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg -½ cup cocoa nibs (or chocolate chips) -1 cup of shredded coconut -1/2 cup Honey or Maple Syrup to taste -Essential Oil to taste. Peppermint, Rose or Orange are some of my favorites. Make sure that you use essential oils that can be taken internally. For Example: I would try 20 drops of Rose and 10 drops of cardamom for this batch. To Make Your Own: Herbal Energy Balls -place herb powder in bowl and mix with tahini, almond butter and honey (or maple syrup) to make a sticky paste. You can substitute any nuts or seeds you would prefer. -add a few drops of essential oil to paste -Thicken the mixture with cocoa nibs, almonds and shredded coconut to form a thick, smooth paste. Grind them up to desired crunchiness. Knead until the dough is as smooth as bread dough. Using a food processor or hand mixer is a great option for blending this together. -Break off small balls. You can roll the balls in carob or cacao powder for a finished look. -dry the balls in a dehydrator, or place them on a cookie sheet and put in the oven 150 degree or on warm setting or eat them fresh and freeze them. -Once dried, these balls will keep indefinitely. Store in a glass jars in a cool, dark location. To Use: Take 1 or 2 balls or best results.
